Upon successful completion of the program, graduates should possess the competencies and knowledge required to function successfully as a Medical Biller or Coder by demonstrating the ability to:

  •  Use medical terminology to describe health conditions and human diseases in the context of anatomy and physiology

  • Apply ethical and legal principles and standards for the control, release and use of health information

  • Identify and organize components of the medical record in a professional manner in the real world

  • Abstract information from medical records and utilize reimbursement software to accurately enter data, transactions, payments and appointments.

  • Code clinical data and prepare medical insurance claims for reimbursement purposes.

Our Simulation learning system developed by Elsevier, integrates simulation technology providing realistic scenarios and supportive learning resources to help through each lesson plan. We also use SimChart which is a simulated Electronic Health record system specifically developed to teach the skill of electronic documentation. Ebooks are available as well as printed textbooks for each course.

Medical coding is the translation of medical record data such as diagnoses, procedures, medical services and equipment into universal alphanumeric codes using ICD-10, CPT/PCS  and HCPCS coding systems.
